Code name is "Cloverfield" but it's likely a cover and not the actual name. Not much is known aside from this is from JJ Abrams of "Alias" and "Lost". Crazy bastard. Seems to be about a group of friends who try to survive a monster attack on New York City. Not necessarily fighting monsters or solving the problem, but just trying to survive. None of the actors are really "name" people: biggest name is Lizzy Caplan who was on The Class. Rumour is that they were asked to be in the movie: no audition. Very intriguing viral marketing...
Yeah, I knew that was the code name, but no actual title. JJ Abrams is a strange man. The Viral websites etc piss me off actually. I mean, the trailer is MORE than enough to pique my interest, why not just tell me what the film is about now? I want to know! The "solve the puzzle and get another puzzle" shit is TIRED, and I don't have the patience for it.

My friend has a theory that it's a new Godzilla, but I remain skeptical.
I thought so too, but my research has led me to believe otherwise. This production company doesn't own the rights to the Godzilla franchise, and the studio that DOES has declared that Godzilla is retired until 2013.
